Kids Take Over is Back at HOTA This Spring!
Updated 17 Sept 2025
Guess what, Goldie fam? After what felt like a decent break, Kids Take Over is BACK at HOTA and ready to make the September–October school holidays out of this world. Running from Monday 22 September to Saturday 4 October, this children’s festival is jam-packed with shows, workshops, movies and intergalactic fun!
The Theme: Kids Go Intergalactic 🚀

This year’s theme takes little astronauts and stargazers on a journey beyond the stars. Think space-inspired shows, cosmic workshops, and plenty of ways to let imaginations blast off. Whether your child is into art, science, theatre or just wants to try something new, there’s something in the galaxy for them ✨.
Must-Sees
One of the highlights? The World Premiere of Into Space by ARC Circus – an epic mix of acrobatics, comedy and heart-stopping stunts. It’s not every day Gold Coast kids get to be the very first in the world to see a brand-new show!

The lineup is huge (seriously, there’s something for every age and interest). Here’s a little taste:

HOTA (aka Home of the Arts) is one of the Goldie’s ultimate family spots in the school holidays. Whether you’re popping in for a kids’ workshop, exploring the latest children’s gallery exhibition, or just soaking up the sunshine in those gorgeous parklands, there’s always something to keep little (and big!) imaginations buzzing.
Children’s Gallery at HOTA
One of the absolute gems at HOTA is the Children’s Gallery, a space designed especially for curious little creatives. The best part? The exhibitions change every six or so months, so there’s always something new and exciting for families to explore.
Each exhibition is hands-on and made with kids in mind, encouraging them to play, touch, create and imagine.
It’s the perfect way to spark creativity in kids while letting them experience art in a way that’s playful and fun. Plus, parents love it too (because who doesn’t love seeing their kids light up with inspiration?).
Explore and Play at HOTA
Don’t be fooled into thinking HOTA is just about indoor art and workshops! The Evandale Parklands surrounding HOTA are a children’s paradise, with plenty to explore, see and do.
Make a splash at Evandale Lake
Right in the heart of HOTA’s parklands, you’ll find Evandale Lake — the perfect spot for a dip or a splash on a warm Goldie day. It’s set beside a fully fenced playground, BBQs for easy picnics, and even free exercise stations if you feel like squeezing in a stretch.
Little adventurers can scooter their way around the parklands, and if you’re up for a wander, take the bridge across to Chevron Island for a mini adventure.
Adventure Trail

A hidden oasis behind and over the top of the Outdoor Stage. The top of the trail offers amazing views of Surfers Paradise and is the perfect spot for a family snap.
Sculpture Walk

A wonderful mix of art and nature, perfect for enjoying an outdoor stroll while spotting sculptures along the way. Be sure to download the outdoor art map for insights into each piece of art.
